Venus Meet Jupiter

If you look into the southwest sky around dusk this week you will see the hard to miss combination of Venus and Jupiter. The two planets are closing in on each other each night and, excpet for the moon, are the brightest objects in the night sky. Below is a photo that was shot Sunday evening with my digital camera mounted on a tripod. Venus is the lower and brighter of the two planets, while Jupiter sits just to the upper left of Venus.



The crescent moon will join the Venus/Jupiter duo on November 30 and December 1. I'll try to get some photos of this grouping as well, assuming the weather stays clear.
